DESCRIPTION:Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new technology that utilizes the photodynamic effect in the treatment of diseases. Its mechanism of action is based on a photosensitization reaction involving oxygen molecules\, resulting in biological effects. In this process\, a laser beam of a specific wavelength stimulates the photosensitizer\, which is absorbed by the tissues. The stimulated photosensitizer transfers its energy to the surrounding oxygen\, leading to the formation of highly reactive singlet oxygen. This singlet oxygen then undergoes oxidative reactions with surrounding biomacromolecules\, creating cytotoxic effects that cause damage to diseased cells and even the death of pathogenic bacteria.\n\nToday\, PDT is widely used as a novel method in the treatment of tumors\, precancerous lesions\, proliferative skin diseases\, and various oral diseases.
